Haven - Day Two Alpha & New Changes
Hey all! Welcome back to another Haven Devlog!
What's been added & changed:
On Tuesday & Friday, Vic and I updated Haven to include Day 2! That means there's a whole new day to go through, interacting with characters and unraveling a bit more of Haven's - and your character's - story. The day content was added on Tuesday, and yesterday's update finished it off by adding Day 2's dreams.
Some minor changes were made to Day 1's content as well. Nothing that dramatically changes the story, but a few lines have been added, some have been removed, and a couple of dreams have changed. As far as Day 1's content is concerned, there probably won't be many - if any - changes in the future (baring any feedback from you lovely folks!). Day 2, on the other hand, is still classified as a draft, though it's in its final stages.
What's to come:
Haven's a continuous work in progress. Vic and I have most of the plot worked out, so we know where the story is going, how it ends, and most of the major elements of how we're getting there. But a lot of the nitty gritty is still being written - and rewritten, and rewritten again after that.
Day 3 is already under way, though a lot still needs to go into it before it's ready for posting. We're hoping to get it out around August 1st (we underestimated how long it would take us last time to get a new part out, and have hopefully adjusted for it this time!), but we are also both planning on / currently in the process of moving, starting new jobs, and dealing with the general shenanigans of our day-to-day.
Part of the editing process for Day 2 is ensuring that it fits together properly with both Day 1 and Day 3, so while the overarching plot will almost definitely remain unchanged after Day 3 is finalized, lines and scenes are most likely going to be tweaked. That will come in a smaller update before Day 3's release, and will come with a shorter announcement.
Would y'all be interested in a more itemized list of content changes going forward? If so, let us know! We'd be happy to provide it for you. Our goal, however, is to not make any continuity-breaking changes to days that are already released, so if players come back to the game and don't want to replay the whole thing, they won't have to.
Which brings us to our final topic: Setting Options (and especially game saves).
When only Day 1 was out, there wasn't much of a need for save files for Haven. Now that Day 2 is out & Day 3 is under development, they're more necessary. So that feature is also something that we plan to release before Day 3, so that when Day 3 comes out, y'all won't have to replay the game from the start (unless, of course, you'd like to!). The goal is also to have multiple save files, so that different routes can be pursued concurrently if y'all so choose.
